BILLERICA — The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating Nuvera Fuel Cells, on Concord Road, after an employee was found dead in an electrical closet last week, according to the U.S. Department of Labor.

OSHA opened its inspection on Dec. 23, the same day the male employee was found dead in the closet, said Ted Fitzgerald, regional director for public affairs at the U.S. Department of Labor.

“The purpose of the inspection will be to determine whether or not there were violations of workplace safety standards by the employer,” Fitzgerald said in a statement.

Fitzgerald said it’s too early to estimate a completion date for the inspection. He would not identify the deceased worker.

Billerica Police Deputy Chief Roy Frost said the death is not suspicious, and the department is waiting for a toxicology report from the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

Nuvera Fuel Cells, at 129 Concord Road, specializes in fuel-cell power systems and state-of-the-art hydrogen products used in the logistics, automotive and aerospace industries. Nuvera employs about 120 people in Billerica.

The company was formed in April 2000 through the merger of Epyx Corp., a subsidiary of Arthur D. Little Inc., of Cambridge, and De Nora Fuel Cells of Milan, Italy. It moved its headquarters in 2007 from Cambridge to its current 110,000-square-foot facility in Billerica.
